The Functioning of Data Migration Service of AWS

The Database Migration Service of Amazon Web Service (DMS AWS) is a cloud-based platform that ensures seamless migration of databases from on-premises systems to the cloud or between different cloud providers. Users can choose between one-time data migration or continual replication between the source and the target but for that, the two have to always be in sync. DMS AWS is ideal for migrating data from relational databases, NoSQL databases, or data warehouses.

Since DMS AWS is a cloud-based replication software, the first criteria for it to function is to establish a link between the source and the target database. This informs the system about where the data is sourced and where it has to be moved. Next, the activity that will load the data from the source to the target has to be defined.

Once these steps are completed, DMS AWS handles the migration process automatically even if the keys and the tables required for migration are not present in the target database. In such instances, the AWS SCT (AWS Schema Conversion Tool) has to be used for creating indexes, tables, views, and triggers in the target database. All the benefits inherent in a cloud-based environment like data security and usage flexibility, cost efficiency, and enhanced performance are available when databases are migrated with DMS AWS.

Users get unmatched scalability with DMS AWS. Users can scale up and down in data usage by paying only for the quantum of resources used, unlike traditional databases where high one-time fees are charged. Further, whenever additional data storage capacity is required, the same can be downloaded immediately.

These are some of the areas of optimized functioning of DMS AWS.
